Story: Alpine plants

Snow tussocks

Snow tussocks

New Zealand's alpine grasslands are dominated by large tussock grasses belonging to the genus Chionochloa. This photograph in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park shows flowering snow tussocks alongside native herbaceous plants (buttercups, wild spaniards and mountain daisies), interspersed with a low cover of introduced pasture grasses.
