    GeoNet provides a database of recent landslides reported in New Zealand.

  • Giant submarine avalanche

    ‘Giant submarine avalanche: was this “Deep Impact”New Zealand style?’, by Keith Lewis and Jean-Yves Collot, outlines New Zealand’s largest offshore landslide. It appears in the online journal of the National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research.

  • Green Lake landslide

    The Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences describes New Zealand’s massive Green Lake landslide, which occurred in Fiordland around 13,000 years ago.

  • Landslides and allied features in the Dunedin district in relation to geological structure, topography, and engineering

    Through his detailed geological mapping of the Dunedin district, Professor Benson became aware of the wide extend of landsliding in the region. This is one of the first papers in the world to describe a variety of landslide features in layered soft rocks and their close connection with geology (PDF, 1.9 MB). It was published in the Transactions of the Royal Society of New Zealand (1940).
