This early children’s drama, The games affair, was made by Endeavour Television Productions in 1974 and directed by John Barnett. The six-episode series came in under budget ($96,000, equivalent to $1.4 million in 2023). Barnett would later recall that the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (the government agency that ran television in New Zealand at the time) threatened to never give Endeavour another commission on the grounds that the company should not have made a profit. From 1993 Barnett was head of South Pacific Pictures, producer of landmark television soap opera Shortland Street and the drama series Outrageous fortune.
