These charts compare the percentage of support received by arts and heritage organisations from private and government sources in 2011/12. The results are based on returns from some, but not all, organisations. Both arts and heritage organisations received their greatest support from governments, both central and local, but there was a contrast in the levels of support from private giving. Arts organisations received substantial sponsorship from corporates and grants from trusts, but the percentage (and indeed the actual dollar figures) was lower among the heritage organisations. This was partly because some major heritage organisations such as Te Papa received large central government support, and partly because private givers arguably received greater visibility from arts performances than from activities such as museums or preserving historic places.
