Sentences for violent crime

The Criminal Justice Act 1985, and its amendments in 1987 and 1993, increased sentencing levels for violent crime. This graph shows average custodial sentences, in days, for different violent crimes between 1980 and 2014. Sentences for homicide in particular rose significantly over this period.
