New Zealand–Japan trade, 1960–2003

The significance of Japan for New Zealand’s trade soared in the 1960s, 1970s and early to mid-1980s. It waned thereafter, a result of the sluggishness of Japan’s economy, the greater importance of Australia to New Zealand, and the rise of other East Asian economies.
