This graph shows the number of ACC claims each financial year (1 July - 30 June) from 1974, when the current system began, until 2016. The sharp rise from 1991 depicts a change in policy to registering all claims involving a medical fee, not just those where compensation was payable. The decrease in 2000 may reflect a short period of privatisation during which people could choose alternative providers to ACC.
