Story: Violent crime

Safe in the city

Safe in the city

Concern about increased numbers of sexual assaults led to a number of attempts in the early 21st century to make cities safer for women. This ‘Safe in the city’ poster (produced collaboratively by the Police, the Wellington City Council and the Accident Compensation Corporation) targets young women rather than those who might contribute to their lack of safety. It suggests that women need to look after one another and 'stick with the girls'.
