Poll tax receipt

As economic conditions worsened in New Zealand, there was a growing animosity towards the Chinese, and from 1881 measures were introduced to restrict further Chinese immigration. All Chinese entering New Zealand had to pay a poll tax. This is the receipt for a poll tax payment.
