Camp Waitara

Camp Waitara

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Gold painted this watercolour of the 65th Regiment in camp at Waitara in early 1860. Gold commanded the British forces. During the conflicts in Taranaki in 1860 and 1861 his troops made a series of forays from this base to the inland areas controlled by Māori.
