Glacier publicity

Because Franz Josef Glacier was easily accessible by road, it was long regarded as a tourist highlight. This cover of a 1935 booklet shows the Franz Josef hotel, with the glacier in the background. The countryside has been tidied up to make it look like a European resort, lacking the distinctive rawness of the South Westland landscape.
