Story: Insurance

In 2005 a state of emergency was declared in Matatā in the Bay of Plenty after massive floods destroyed homes, farmland and possessions. Soon afterwards, assessors from the Insurance Council arrived to inspect the damage and advise on insurance payouts. Since the 1960s most flood damage has been covered by ‘all risks’ policies, although the Insurance Council directly covers loss of land from flooding.
