Within Auckland, there are areas that have their own images and sense of place. West Auckland became known for its bogan or Westie subculture, with its emphasis on casual dress, heavy rock music and cars. The subculture became the subject of one of New Zealand’s most successful TV drama series, Outrageous fortune,whose cast is shown here.
