Te Pihoihoi printing press

This press was used to print the government newspaper Te Pihoihoi Mokemoke i runga i te Tuanui, established at Te Awamutu in February 1863 in reaction to the Kīngitanga (Māori King movement) paper Te Hokioi o Niu Tireni e Rere atu na. After a series of heated exchanges between the two publications, the government newspaper's printing press was seized by a Ngāti Maniapoto group in March 1863.
