Displays of flax rope were a staple of New Zealand exhibits at both local and international exhibitions from 1851. They were still to be found in the government agricultural court at the New Zealand International Exhibition in Christchurch in 1906–7. However, by this time there were much larger displays of other agricultural produce such as wool, butter and fruit.
