Story: Poetry

Tuwhare

Remote Media URL

In 2003 singer-songwriter Charlotte Yates persuaded a group of New Zealand musicians to use poems written by Hone Tuwhare as lyrics for songs which they then performed for both a concert and a recording. Because Tuwhare was too sick to attend the album launch, this short documentary, Tuwhare(2005), was commissioned. It shows Tuwhare reciting his poems in his home at Kākā Point on the south Otago coast followed by the resulting songs.

Filling up my tank on Tuwhare and Baxter - best school holiday de-stress measure! But where are the women poets? Hoping to find several. Going looking now.
