Story: Māori fiction – ngā tuhinga paki

Apirana Ngata and Te Rangi Hīroa (Peter Buck) were two prominent Māori leaders of the 20th century. Both were prolific writers and collectors of traditional Māori literature. They were largely concerned with non-fiction. Proficient in both te reo Māori and English, the two men paved the way for a literate Māori middle class, which emerged after the Second World War.
