Newspapers were one of the early media through which written Māori literature created by Māori writers was transmitted. Te Paki o Matariki was the official newspaper of the Kīngitanga (Māori King movement). Newspapers like this were an invaluable tool of communication at the time they were written. In the 2000s they were treasured by both the producers' descendants and scholars.
