Kotahitanga hui at Papawai, 2012

In 2012 a hui was held at Papawai marae near Greytown to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Kotahitanga parliament and the 115th anniversary of the parliament's first meeting at Papawai.

The 2012 pōwhiri was based on the welcome given in 1897 to arriving iwi, which was recorded in the Māori language newspaper, Te Puke ki Hikurangi. Descendants of the original members of the Kotahitanga parliament carry images of their tīpuna (ancestors) and other taonga (treasures).
