YMCA gymnastics demonstration, about 1925

These members of the YMCA demonstrate a variety of gymnastic poses in an unidentified gymnasium. In the 1920s gymnastics was not an organised competitive activity in New Zealand. These enthusiasts are likely to have practised gymnastics to improve their general strength, fitness and agility. The same continued to be true of most gymnastics practitioners even after competitive gymnastics was introduced.
