Sports Digest was edited by Wellington journalist Brian F. O'Brien from 1949 to 1979. This issue features the New Zealand runner Bill Baillie on the cover. O'Brien had a particular interest in boxing, but the monthly publication covered all New Zealand sports and became essential reading for the nation's sports fans. O'Brien wrote many of the articles, some of them under pseudonyms, especially Phillip Dennis, the names of his two sons.
