A barbecue is held in a suburban backyard in January 2007. Since the 1950s the barbecue has been a feature of the New Zealand summer. Modern backyards often have specially designated barbecue spaces and gas-fired barbecues such as the one in this picture. Barbecue cooking is typically seen as a role for males.

Greetings from Brazil! I have a question because it seems that in New Zealand, everyone uses a gas grill instead of the standard charcoal grill. Is there any difference in taste or flavor? I believe the charcoal smoke is what gives the barbecue flavor to meat and here in Brazil, is very rare to see a gas grill and never had the chance to try it. Best regards!
