Story: Kermadec Islands

Members of the 1908 Kermadec Islands expedition – back row, left to right, C. E. Warden, S. R. Oliver, T. Iredale, and front row, W. R. B. Oliver and W. L. Wallace – are seen at Denham Bay. The group, led by W. R. B. Oliver, gained government support to spend almost a year investigating the biology and geology of the Kermadec Islands, and their published work laid the foundation for scientific knowledge of the islands. Oliver later became director of the Dominion Museum.
