Mana Motuhake campaign flyer, 1980

This flyer announces a public meeting in Auckland for Matiu Rata, Mana Motuhake candidate for Northern Māori. Rata first became the MP for Northern Māori in 1963, representing the Labour Party. He resigned from the Labour Party in 1979, because he felt the party did not pay enough attention to Māori, and resigned from Parliament the following year. In 1980, representing the new Mana Motuhake party, he contested his old seat but lost to Labour candidate Bruce Gregory.
