Migration to New Zealand, 1900–1919

This graph shows the annual figures for total (gross) immigration, net migration (which takes into account those who left the country), and assisted immigration (where fares were paid in part by the government). It demonstrates that there was a consistent gain of immigrants in the years up to the First World War, in part because of the revival of assisted immigration, which contributed more than one- third of the gain between 1904 and 1914.
