Hall of Memories

Video file

On Anzac Day 1964 the Hall of Memories was opened beside the carillon in Wellington. The hall, designed by William Gummer, had initially been planned as a national First World War memorial, but when it eventually opened it honoured those who had died in four wars – the South African War, the First and Second world wars and the Korean War. The centrepiece was the statue of a mother and child by Lyndon Smith. This film shows the opening of the hall.
