The 78,000-hectare Pureora Forest Park is administered by the Department of Conservation. The park, which spans the Rangitoto and Hauhungaroa ranges, forms much of the King Country’s eastern boundary. Pureora was first reserved as a state forest for felling timber, and old milling equipment, including a steam hauler and tractors, is on display. Pureora is now treasured for its giant podocarp trees and native wildlife. This photograph was taken near the Pureora Field Base in the park’s centre.
