This whakapapa (genealogical chart) shows hapū (clans or descent groups) within Ngāti Porou that have taken their names from women of different generations – namely Mate, Hinerupe, Ruataupare, Hinepare, Rākairoa, Hinemanuhiri, Hinetāpora and Tāpuhi.

NB: While our hapu is commonly referred to as "Te Aitanga a Mate" our tiupna is never referred to as "Mate" ko tona ingoa ko Materoa.

Kia Ora, The lineage provided for Ruataupare above is incorrect. She is a descendant of HAUITI of Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti iwi. She is the eponymous ancestress of Te Whanau-a-Rua in Tokomaru Bay the northern boundary of our iwi rohe. Hauiti = Kahukura-iti | Kahukuranui = Hinekahukura | Kapihoromaunga = Puaiwhanake | Wakapawhero = Raramatai | Hinemaurea = Te Aotaki | Ruataupare
