Māori prisoners under guard, 1866

A number of adherents of the Pai Mārire (Hauhau) faith were captured by British forces. These prisoners were said to have been taken at Weraroa , at Waitōtara, north-west of Whanganui. They are being held on a ship in Wellington Harbour in 1866, and were later imprisoned in Dunedin.
