Story: Family violence

Reclaim the night march

Image
Reclaim the night march

This poster advertises a women’s march against rape and violence. Marches such as these were used by Rape Crisis to raise awareness of the problem. Rape is often an aspect of family violence, but until 1985 rape within marriage was not a criminal offence. From the late 1970s, rape crisis centres were formed to support victims and educate the public.
