Story: Ngā tuakiri hōu – new Māori identities

Māori Rastafarians

Video file

This video for the hit song 'Sensitive to a smile' by Pacific reggae band Herbs was shot at Mangahānea marae, at Ruatōria on the East Coast, in 1987. At the time the area had been troubled by a series of violent incidents involving local Māori Rastafarians, the dreadlocked followers of a black religious movement originating in the Caribbean.
