Playcentre is an organisation run by parents which offers preschool children play-based learning at centres throughout the country. Parents accompany their children to most sessions and are expected to do administrative and planning work as well. These children and parents are hard at work in the sandpit at Māoribank Playcentre in Upper Hutt, in 1975.
