Born in Niue, John Pule migrated to New Zealand in 1964, aged two. He is a visual artist as well as a writer. He weaves fish, people and bird-like creatures into his paintings, which record stories about history and place. This mural by Pule is on Williamson Avenue in Grey Lynn, an inner-city suburb where many Pacific people settled from the 1960s.
