Story: Castaways

Chart of Southern Ocean

This navigation chart for skippers sailing along the Great Circle Route was published in 1828 by J. W. Norie & Co. of London. However, the Auckland and Campbell island groups to the south of New Zealand were poorly drawn and not located with precision. Given this, it was not surprising that at least nine ships had been wrecked on the Auckland Islands by 1907.
