Story: Theatre companies and producers

Cover of Fresh off the boat

Oscar Kightley was born in Samoa and migrated to New Zealand at the age of four. He was a founding member of the Christchurch-based theatre group Pacific Underground, which performed his first play, Fresh off the boat (co-written with Simon Small), in 1993. This tragi-comic account of a newly arrived immigrant family was a huge hit locally and internationally, and was also broadcast as a radio play. This is the cover of the play script, published in 2005. It shows fellow Pacific Underground member David Fane.
