First chart published in New Zealand, Hocken Library (2nd of 2)

This 1841 chart of Port Nicholson (Wellington Harbour), by New Zealand Company nautical surveyor Edward Main Chaffers, is the first map or chart printed and published in New Zealand. Many copies were sold, but Thomas Hocken's is the only one surviving. Chaffers surveyed the harbour over five days in 1839. Two other versions of the chart were published in England and Australia in 1840.
