This montage, from the Illustrated New Zealand News, 1884, shows aspects of daily and weekly routines on the Te Aroha goldfield. In one segment miners are shown preparing for the day's work, cooking food and pulling on boots, in another they are shown trudging up the hill to the goldfield area. A couple of segments identify Saturday activities – having a wash and visiting the local pub. Another shows three miners relaxing in a hot spring – perhaps this was one of their Sunday 'day of rest' activities.
