Story: King Country places

42 Traverse

The 42 Traverse is a mountain-biking track through the Tongariro Forest Conservation Area near Ōwhango, and has been described as one of the best rides in the North Island. The track is 46 kilometres long and runs uphill and down, descending 570 metres from the beginning near Tauwera on State Highway 47 to the end at the Ōhinetonga Bridge near Ōwhango. This cross-section of the track shows just how challenging it is.
