Story: Labour Party

1938 Labour election campaign pamphlet

In the 1938 general election Labour was opposed for the first time by the National Party, which had been formed two years earlier. This Labour Party pamphlet lists some of the welfare reforms introduced by Labour in its first term of office, and compares them with what it sees as National's policies. Labour won this election with 55.8% of the vote, the highest proportion since 1908..
