Story: Suburbs

‘Housing the people’ poster

This Labour Party election poster from 1938 contrasts a family facing eviction from their run-down inner-city house with a family in a brand new state house with its own lawn and garden. State housing was a key election issue in the period after the 1930s economic depression and the Second World War.
