Story: Clothing and footwear manufacturing

Hannahs factories and shops

Robert Hannah did a cobbler’s apprenticeship in his native Northern Ireland. He opened a footwear shop and factory in Te Aro, Wellington, next to Cuba Street – where a Hannahs shop remained in the early 2000s, along with dozens more throughout New Zealand. This advertisement for Hannahs annual clearance sale from around the turn of the 19th century shows real flair.
