Story: Ahuwhenua – Māori land and agriculture

Native Lands Act 1862

The Native Lands Act 1862 brought the Native Land Court (now the Māori Land Court) into being. Its operation led to it being named ‘Te Kōti Tango Whenua’ – the land-taking court.
