The Malibu board of the early 1960s was often quite long – sometimes over 10 feet (3 metres). While it was not possible to make some of the more flamboyant moves achieved with the short board, certain manoeuvres such as running up and down the board could be done by skilled surfers, as shown in this clip from Children of the sun.
