This film was made by amateur photographer Edwin Nitschke, using an 8-mm camera on 26 December 1953. It shows the scene close to the site of the Tangiwai bridge. Although the Whangaehu River dropped rapidly after the peak of the lahar passed, it was still running high two days after the flood.
