Penguins have given up flight altogether and are well adapted to swimming and diving. Their wings have become short flippers which propel them through the water, and their feet are used for steering. This silent footage shows a little penguin swimming close to the surface, but they regularly dive 10 or 20 metres to catch food. Larger penguins can dive to 100 metres or more.
