Story: Opie, Alice June Norma

Overcoming disability

In this 1996 episode of Four in ten, June Opie describes how she rejected medical advice to spend the rest of her life in an institution after she returned to New Zealand. Instead she pursued further education, wrote a successful memoir, and travelled around Europe by car before gaining financial independence through her writing.
