Songs from the inside

Songs from the inside, a documentary series produced by Awa Films, first screened on Māori Television in 2012. Professional musicians mentored selected prison inmates, who wrote their own songs and recorded them with backing musicians in a studio. The series documented the experiences of mentors and inmates.

Ruth was one of the participants in the second series, which screened in 2014. Watch her perform her song ‘I will’, introduced by mentor Annie Crummer.
