Story: Feature film

End of the golden weather, 1991

This period drama was developed from one of the best-known productions in New Zealand theatre: Bruce Mason's long-running solo play based on his Auckland childhood. Ian Mune saw the show in Tauranga at age 19, and much later adapted the story for screen, and directed and co-produced the film. Auckland's East Coast Bays provided most sets, and the extras included a promising newcomer named Lucy Lawless, who went on to international fame as the star of Xena. The young lead actor, Stephen Fulford, won one of the film's numerous international awards.
