The first Labour government's state-housing scheme increased the number of rental houses, but by the end of the Second World War there was still unmet demand for both rental and owner-occupied housing. This 1945 government housing film highlights the necessity of increasing housing supply to meet New Zealand's predicted population growth. It also shows the difference between inner-city housing conditions and those of new suburban state housing areas.
