The First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt, came to New Zealand for a week in late August 1943, during the Second World War. She visited US servicemen in camps and hospitals, and made a real effort to find out about the activities of New Zealand women. At the end of her visit she recorded this message from the women of the US to the women of New Zealand.
